Exporting data from OAM2

How do I export my data?

Exporting data is really easy.  Just browse or search the data you are interested in (e.g. Appointments, Customers, etc) and then click on the "Export" link at the bottom of the page.

You will be shown a list of the available fields, and can choose to include or exclude fields based on your needs.

The system will then package up your data, and pass it to you as a CSV file which can be saved or opened (just like any other download).

What is a CSV file?

CSV stands for "comma-separated variable.  CSV files are a standard way of packaging data in a readable form, that can then be used by spreadsheets (such as Excel or Open Office Calc), databases (such as Access or Open Office Base), and a variety of other applications.

How can I use the data?

Once you have save the file to your hard-drive you can use it in a variety of ways...

You can open the file directly in your spreadsheet application (Excel, Open Office Calc, etc).  Once it is in your spreadsheet you can sort the data, create totals, graph the data, etc.  We recommend that if you use the data in this way that you should save the file in it's native format.  E.g. save as an Excel Workbook (.xls).

You can import the file into a database.  Practically any database will have the ability to import CSV files.  Once the data is imported you can then use the features of the database to manipulate and report on the data in whatever way you see fit.

You can use the file as a data source for other applications.  For example, Microsoft Word can use a CSV file as a source for creating mailing-lists and form letters.

It's your data

The data stored in OAM2 belongs to you.  We are merely custodians of the data, who keep it safe and make it available to you in useful and meaningful ways.  It surprises us when we hear of other software providers who do not provide any export features, or charge you a fee to access your own data!

This is something we will never do.  Even in the event that you cancel your account, we will happily give you the time you need to export any / all of your data - after all it is YOUR data.

Reports

Although exporting data gives you lots of flexibility in how you use your data, it does require a bit of extra effort.  For many of your data needs you will probably find the available reports can give you what you need quickly and easily.
